The Secrets of Water
It is said that April showers bring May flowers. Rain helps create movement and flow, mobilizing and activating essential nutrients in the soil. Similarly, water in our bodies provides the same movement and flow within. Just like rain, the flow in our bodies serves a vital purpose. In Ayurveda, it is believed that stagnation leads to imbalances. To maintain a healthy internal flow, we must ensure that the water we consume supports the natural patterns that sustain us.
Drinking water at the right time—whether before, after, in between, or during meals—affects our internal rhythm and flow. Likewise, the temperature of the water plays a significant role. To align with the body's natural patterns, it is recommended to drink water between meals, as this helps maintain a balance of acids and enzymes crucial for digestion. An excessive intake of water during meals may dilute these digestive fluids, negatively impacting digestion. When digestion is sluggish, warm water is beneficial, whereas room temperature water generally supports a healthy rhythm and flow.
Water is full of life-sustaining properties. The magic lies in how we choose to use it—either mindlessly or with intention and purpose. The choice is ours.
